Undoubtedly the best thing about a holiday home is that it is away from the humdrum of normal life and the to do list which that comes with. However, if you are building a home away from home, here are five features you should consider including to truly make it your own slice of paradise.
- Useable Living Spaces: It is worth having a living area where the whole family or group can gather together for a meal or to relax. If your group is of varying ages and interests, ideally have a couple of living areas: one for the children to play in, for example, as well as a space for quiet activities.
- An Outdoor Area: Likewise, it is preferable to have an outdoor area where everyone can gather in the warmer months. If the area is covered, you may be able to use it all year round.
- Sufficient Bedrooms and Bathrooms: This will obviously depend on who uses the holiday home. If it is for just one family you may be happy to share a couple of rooms and one bathroom but for more, consider multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. There is nothing worse than getting in each other’s way when you are trying to relax.
- Fireplace: Of course, this may depend on the style of home you have but in a cooler climate you will find that everyone will enjoy congregating around the fireplace. It is a great time to share stories, play cards and boardgames. These are the times that will be remembered fondly.
- Homely Touches: Add a few homely pieces to your holiday house to truly make it a home away from home. If it is quite different to your permanent home, like a beach house or a farmhouse, you might consider decorating in that particular style.
