Prepare Your Home For The Looming Winter: 3 Helpful Tips

Unfortunately, that time of year has come. The peak of summer has come and gone, and for some of us we're about to turn our clocks back and lose an hour of sunlight.

It's not all bad news, though. If you're a fan of cozying up and staying in, we've come up with the best tips to beat the post-summer blues and get your house ready in autumn for the fast-approaching winter.

1: Layer up those throw rugs

Adding a range of colourful throw rugs is an excellent way of giving your living area a pop of colour and ensuring the space is cozy and inviting for the colder months. Make sure you pick the right textures; knitted throws and mohair rugs are great breathable natural fabrics that keep you warm while looking luxurious.

2: Add floor rugs

While hardwood or concrete floors are great in summer, we want to be walking on something a bit warmer in the colder months. A good floor rug will be able to hold more heat than your wooden floor, and they look great. They can also be a great way to help break up open plan areas, and with many new floor rugs are machine washable in case of spills or mishaps, you can use them almost anywhere!

TIP: Not just for your lounge room. Add a transitional rug to the high-traffic area of your kitchen. Your feet will thank you.

Gingham flannelette sheets

3: Linen refresh

Just before winter is the perfect time to ensure you have the right linens for the seasons ahead.
Flannelette or brushed cotton sheets are the ideal treats for your bed. The brushed pile of the fabric is better at retaining heat and gives you that super soft feel.
While you're freshening up your bedroom, remember to add a throw rug to your bed, an extra layer of warmth will be appreciated on those frosty mornings. It’s also a great way to give your bedroom a new look and feel, by adding bold patterns or block colours to your linen, you can really make it feel newly decorated!

TIP: As most of us will be turning on our heaters for the first time this year, ensure all your smoke alarms have fresh batteries and are in good working order.
