With lots of us having spent time inside over the winter months, now is a great time to break out and make the most of your space!
No matter what the size of your home, there are always a few things you can do to maximise the space you have. Spring is a great time for freshening up your home and un-cluttering those busy rooms, so here are some ideas to spruce up your space…
Play with light
If you have large windows use them to their full potential! Giving them a good clean and using lighter curtains and window dressings can make the world of difference allowing all that lovely light into your home. If you have smaller windows, be smart! Using mirrors or glass in a room with small windows helps to reflect any light back into the home, bringing natural sunlight to previously darker spaces. If a room is still a little gloomy, why not use strategically placed lighting in the corners? Choosing a warm, natural coloured bulb light can give you that natural light effect.
Utilise Decks and Verandahs
With better weather and longer days comes more time outside, but don’t miss a trick by leaving everything inside! Bringing durable furniture onto verandahs and decks not only frees up room inside your home, but also creates lots of lovely areas for family and friends to relax outside. Tucking away rarely used items into outdoor storage areas can also help you de-clutter inside while using wooden or wicker storage boxes can tie into the outdoor setting and provide you plenty of space to keep those unused bits and pieces.
Clever Furniture
Maximising your floor space can be tough when you have lots of furniture. Get your furniture working for you by using in built storage under beds and couches – a nice shallow basket can clear the floor of loose items and still look good tucked away under some furniture. Ottomans are also superb for storing toys and can be incorporated into your design theme. Nesting tables are a great way to keep your living spaces open, while still being practical when entertaining or playing games with the family.
It doesn’t matter what size of home you have, we sometimes need to take the time to square everything in its proper place – and by utilising some of the tips above, you can free up all the space you need and easily maintain that tidy and fresh look!
