Winters feel like they are getting colder and colder—they don't call it a cold snap for nothing. One of the best things you can do to ensure your home stays at a comfortable temperature all year round is to choose a new home with energy-efficient design elements and materials. An essential benefit of energy-efficient design is that you can also vastly reduce your energy bills and save a lot of money in the long run. To make it even easier to build the most efficient home you can, until the end of July, Swanbuild is offering a range of free upgrades to take your home's efficiency to the next level. Read below to learn more about the materials and upgrades our promotion includes and how they will save you money year after year.
Insulation and R-Value
While all homes built today include layers of insulation, the right amount can help your home go from 'chilly' to 'cosy'. When rating insulation, the R-value indicates its effectiveness in resisting heat transfer. Simply put, the higher the R-value of your insulation, the better it reduces heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, resulting in comfortable temperatures and energy savings. A high R-value depends on the type of insulation used (glasswool, foilboard, polyester, etc.), its thickness, and its density.
As standard, all Swanbuild homes include the following:
• Under-floor insulation rated R1.5
• External walls rated R2.0
• Ceiling insulation rated R4.0
Take advantage of our FREE upgrade promotion before July 31st, and we will upgrade your home to include:
• Under-floor insulation rated R2
• External walls rated R2.5
• Ceiling insulation rated R6.0
Glazing Upgrades
Ideally, no surface or element of your home should touch both the inside and the outside to reduce the amount of heat transferred. Unfortunately, windows not built to the highest standard often cause most homes to lose heat. Like insulation, you want a protective layer within the window to maintain a comfortable temperature. Thermally broken windows are the ultimate efficient choice in window manufacturing. They place an extra layer of material between both panes of glass so no surface touches both sides, and the amount of heat lost is minimal.
All Swanbuild homes include double-glazed windows as the standard option, but if you sign up and pay your pre-deposit on a new home before July 31st, we will upgrade your home to include thermally broken windows.
While elements like insulation and windows are often overlooked, these upgrades will give your home the best advantage to save money and stay warm in winter and cool in summer. So if you find yourself shivering through another winter and looking for that motivation to upgrade to a new home, then now is the time.
